About
Guarddog's IP Camera Technology
Why is surveillance camera footage
so much better security than an alarm?
-
No false alarms.
You don’t get false alarms when you can
check the video footage yourself
-
No guard callout fees.
You need never pay for a guard to be sent out again.
If you have video footage of an intruder – the
police will respond.
-
The police will attend
your property with video proof. They
will NOT attend the property if a burglar alarm goes
off
-
You have a much higher
chance of getting your stuff back
because the crime is much easier to solve with video
proof. It’s hard for a criminal to deny a crime
when their face is caught on camera.
-
You have the satisfaction of knowing that the
criminal will be brought to justice
because there is video proof
-
Some crimes are perpetrated by people who have visited
the property or know the layout of the property. You
can recognise them from the footage.
What else can
this technology be used for?
For business people
- you can watch what your staff are doing when you’re
not there. It is used to improve staff performance and
productivity, reduce OHS risk and reduce stock loss and
theft
For parents of babies
- the camera can be used as a visual baby monitor
– when the baby wakes you can be notified. If you
have to duck out to the shops while the baby is asleep,
you can be notified when the baby wakes
For parents of young children
– you can know exactly what the babysitter is doing
with your children when you aren’t there
For parents of teenagers
– you can see what’s going on when you’re
out of the house
For travellers
– if you are worried about the security of your
hotel room, you can see what goes on in your room when
you’re not there.
The camera is fully mobile – you can get live video
footage anywhere there is a powerpoint, router and internet
connection.
How
does it work?
- When the camera senses
movement it begins
recording high definition images
- The images are automatically stored
in the archive (which stores up to 500 individual
events)
- If you elect SMS notification, GuardDog’s
video monitoring software will send
you an SMS when the camera begins
recording. By linking your home alarm and the
GuardDog Surveillance System you can limit SMS
notification to only contact you when the alarm
is armed.
- When you are notified via SMS that the camera
has begun recording, you simply click
on the on-screen button to view
the footage.
- Use your mouse
to control the camera - pan and
tilt the camera to take a closer look at things
that are off screen.
- If the person is an intruder, you simply click
another on-screen button to immediately talk
to our back-to-base monitoring
centre. The operator will contact the police directly.

What
is IP camera technology and is it new?
IP (internet protocol) camera technology is not
new. The problem is, it has always been very expensive
because the intelligence and ability to communicate
with the internet have always been housed within
a proprietary computer or DVR (digital video recorder).
This component adds a huge amount of cost. The GuardDog
IP surveillance camera houses the intelligence necessary
to communicate though the internet. Our offsite
data storage facility houses unique software that
enables us to store the images at a much lower cost
than previously available.

How can GuardDog bring
out a technology that until now has cost at least $5000
and legitimately do it for less than $1000?
The two most expensive parts of a CCTV system are the
DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and the installation. The
Guarddog camera does not require a DVR or installation.
You just put it where you want it, plug it in, and then
call us to activate your account. Consequently it is vastly
cheaper with no compromise in the quality of the equipment.
Don’t security cameras
normally need a fixed IP address to be able to send images
over the internet?
This has always been true until now. A fixed IP address
is far more expensive than a normal internet connection.
Normally, the monthly cost of a fixed IP address is in
the order of $70 per month. The GuardDog IP surveillance
camera can communicate through a regular internet connection,
saving you a significant amount on your internet costs.
How secure
is the GuardDog IP surveillance camera technology
compared with a DVR stored on my property?
The reason most businesses are moving to offsite
data storage for all critical business information
is because it is far more secure:
- Intruders can’t get at your stored images
- If a thief breaks in they will steal the DVR
and hence the record of them having been there.
In the case of the GuardDog IP surveillance camera,
if they do try to steal or tamper with the camera,
their pictures will have already been sent to
the archive. So you even get them for stealing
the camera.
- If the person realises they have been filmed,
there is nothing they can do to save themselves.
Their image has already been sent to your archive
and phone
- If they steal the equipment, it is a lot easier
to replace a camera that costs less than $1000
than a DVR that costs more than $3000.
- Your data is not susceptible to local events
such as fires, power interruptions or power surges
that can destroy your images. Data centres are
recognised as the safest and most secure way to
store critical information.
